The 5 methods of fall protection
1:1 Fall protection, Fall arrest lanyard
Suitable for non-permanent climbing or work with short reach. Double fall arrestor lanyards when moving, single lanyard when static.
1:2 Fall protection with gliding lock
Fall protection with vertical rope, wire or rail with sliding lock. Suitable for frequent climbing in the same position. A ladder, for example.
1:3 Fall arrest block
Fall arrest block with self-retracting function. Suitable if movement is necessary. Available in different lengths with steel wire or textile binding.
1:4 Fall protection with rope grab
Fall protection with manual or automatic rope grab. Suitable for work on a stable base and when fall risk cannot be avoided.
2 Fall arrest line
Anchor line with manual rope lock (with or without shock absorber). Requirements for safety distance to edge. Suitable method for preventing the risk of exposure to falling.
3 Work positioning equipment
Support equipment recommended for use in combination with fall protection. Suitable for work where the supporting structure can be slippery, unstable or on steeply sloping roofs where the hands need to be available for work.
4 Rope Access
Rope work with working- and back-up rope with supplemental components for rope adjustment. Suitable when the supporting structure is not stable, dependable or is missing. Recommendation is to follow one of the authorised methods such as Irata, Sprat or Soft.
