Smartline X give the wind power technicians added security

08 October 2020

RESQ SMARTLINE X HAS GIVEN DEUTSCHE WINDTECHNIK'S WIND POWER TECHNICIANS A SAFER WORKDAY.

As a wind power technician at Deutsche Windtechnik, it is essential not to be afraid of heights. Every day they climb at heights and the tallest wind turbine that Swedish Deutsche Windtechnik service is 150 meters.

- Security is rigorous. Everyone who works at high heights must, as a minimum requirement, have a tower climber certificate, do a regular ECG examination and participate in a proper "Working at Heights" and "GWO training" every two years, says Linus Sturesson- CEO at Deutsche Windtechnik AB

In addition to regular training at the company's training centre in Germany, the Swedish unit also strengthens the competence of its staff through collaborations with industry-leading suppliers.

When Deutsche Windtechnik sought additional ways to improve the safety of their wind power technicians, they turned to Cresto Group, to identify risks and implement the necessary measures.

CHALLENGE

The law requires every wind turbine to have rescue equipment installed in the nacelle. Since Deutsche Windtechnik has service agreements on different types of wind turbines, the challenge has been to have knowledge of and be able to use different rescue equipment in a sharp situation. Cresto Group has trained Deutsche Windtechnik's wind power technicians on various types of rescue equipment, giving the technicians the right tools to handle an emergency regardless of the turbine they work on. But despite thorough and continuous training, the human factor can make itself known in situations with a high level of stress.

PERSONAL EQUIPMENT THAT PERFORMS IN ALL SITUATIONS

Therefore, the wind power technicians have been equipped with RESQ Smartline X - 125 m, a personal evacuation equipment. The equipment can be vacuum packed in a small bag, easily carried either on the harness or the back. In the event of an accident, the technician can quickly evacuate to safety.

The technician is personally responsible for the equipment's daily visual check and that it undergoes an annual inspection, just like all other personal fall protection equipment. In return, they have an equipment that delivers in all situations.

Challenge

Wind power technicians service many different types of turbines. They should be able to use different rescue equipment if an emergency occurs.

Solution
  • Cresto Group trains the wind power technicians on different types of rescue equipment.
  • The wind power techniques are equipped with a 125 meters Smartline X Ultra Vacuum. It acts as a personal evacuation device that is always at their side.
